Where the Rubber Rainbow Hits the Rainbow Road

It started out with Star Wars, because of course it did, but man, it grew into something amazing.  You think you've had delicious booze before, and you probably have, but all the same, this is one you need to try.  It's beautiful and delicious.  Fun to make, too.

A note:  I have silicon ice cube trays that I use for these, and they're SO much better than hard plastic.  Each color makes 9 cubes, and you can cut each cube into 4 cubes, which means you're getting 36 small cubes from each color, or 216 total cubes.  And that's lovely.

Another note:  You can do this with straight-up vodka, but you should throw in some flavored things if you can.  More fun that way.

Where the Rubber Rainbow Hits the Rainbow Road

Ingredients
(You will need, in total, 12 Tbsp unflavored gelatin (this is 3/4 cup, total) if you make the full rainbow.)

Cherry jello (3 oz box)
1 cup Kirschwasser (cherry liqueur)
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Orange jello (3 oz box)
1 cup Peach vodka
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Lemon jello (3 oz box)
1 cup Coconut vodka
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Lime jello (3 oz box)
1/2 cup Melon liqueur (Midori)
1/2 cup Pineapple vodka
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Blue raspberry jello (3 oz box)
1 cup Orange triplesec
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Grape jello (3 oz box)
1 cup Lemon vodka
2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Instructions
  1. Pour the alcohol into a small saucepan and add the unflavored gelatin.
  2. Whisk over medium heat until the gelatin has started to dissolved (maybe 1 minute)
  3. Add the jello and reduce heat to medium low, whisking until it just barely starts to boil.
  4. Remove from heat and pour into ice cube trays.  Silicon trays are kind of amazing here.
  5. Refrigerate at least 3 hours before pulling them out.
  6. Stack 'em chromatically, pour moscato over them if you want to drink or ginger ale over them if you don't.
If you're doing this for Star Wars day or a Star Wars theme party, you can make 'em in lightsaber colors:  green for Luke, blue for Obi-Wan, purple for Mace Windu, red for Darth Vader.  That's how it started for me, and it was good times.  The blue ones look a lot like the tesseract from the Avengers universe, too, so there's that.

No matter why you make them, have fun with them, both making and eating them.  That's their only purpose, really, and it's always good to see purpose realized.
