Mudhorn Eggs

I first discovered this recipe on Foodwishes.com's YouTube channel , which slated them as Turkish eggs.  However, I'm pretty sure that recipe's an adaptation of authentic Turkish eggs, and since my recipe is an adaptation of that recipe ... yeah.  Not gonna claim it's Turkish until someone tells me I can.  Like someone from Turkey, not just any random yahoo. That said, this is arguably my favorite way to eat eggs, so good that I'm not even ashamed to admit that I licked my plate clean and scurried upstairs to work out after I ate it, just so I could burn off what I'd just eaten and eat it again.  Gonna be making this a LOT on nights I get home and need dinner NOW, which is pretty cool, because it's shockingly good for you -- low in butter (you need VERY little to get the flavor), has eggs and wheat toast in it, and a generous serving of yogurt.  Everything the body needs! Yogurt's Pumpkin Pie Yoda

Image
It ain't green but it's Yogurt and really, Yogurt > Yoda every day of the week, fight me. ... and may the schwartz be with you! Yogurt's Pumpkin Pie Yoda Ingredients 6 oz plain, unsweetened yogurt ---> 18 oz tripled 1/4 cup plain pumpkin puree ---> 3/4 cup tripled 1/4 tsp cinnamon ---> 3/4 tsp tripled 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice* 3/4 tsp ---> tripled 1 Tbsp maple syrup ---> 3 Tbsp tripled Instructions Combine all of the above. Whisk to combine. Yeah, that's really it.   A few items of interest: This recipe makes two servings. I use a yogurt maker and make my own yogurt.  It's freakin' awesome.  Much nicer for the environment, too, since we're buying far fewer plastic yogurt containers, while still eating a tonne of yogurt. I can triple this recipe and get it all to fit into an old yogurt container, which means I don't have to measure every time, and at the end of a work day bookended by a bike commute?  That...

There's Always a Bigger (tuna)Fish Salad

Back in 1999, I'd never seen a single Star Wars  movie, but it seemed the entire nation was freaking out over Episode I: The Phantom Menace  coming out, so being the good conformist high school sophomore I was, I bought tickets to the opening night showing and went with all my friends (including and especially the dear soul who would six years later marry me) to see what all the fuss was about. It was a party!  People showed up in costume, carrying brightly colored plastic swords (my dad bought me a red one for the event, I'm pretty sure that means he's cool with my Dark Side tendencies?).  The high school marching band came into the theatre and performed the Title Crawl and Imperial March live (which was AWESOME).  And there was just this ... I don't know, this aura of sheer jubilation suffusing every square inch of breath in the room, a generation of parents who'd raised their children on the orig-trig getting to see a Star Wars  movie along with their...

Smoothie (so good it's) Criminal

I accidentally became a vegetarian in May 2014, and where there've been many benefits to that, the best, I think, is that I eat breakfast every single morning now. Never before had I done that, ever , and now I get all cranky if I don't get to have breakfast. This breakfast, specifically. (For the record, I ate 320 of these in 2015 and 323 of these in 2016 and as of today, the 19th day in the Year of Our Lord 2017, I've eaten 19. I really, really  like this smoothie.) We have the ingredients written down on a sticky note in the kitchen because making breakfast while half-asleep is just not okay most mornings, but at request I'm putting it here. I'm not picky about my protein powders, so long as they're not wicked high in cholesterol or sugar. I tend to like vanilla the least and chocolate the best and strawberry's okay or whatever, nothing to write home about. Really it's all about the banana and oat flavor, for me, because mmm bananas and oats. ...

Burn Your Face Down Totchos

So imagine that it's two o'clock in the morning, you've been asleep on your beanbag chair for four hours, but you showered (because you were a greasy pile of gross) before getting into your proper bed, which means you're now too awake to go to sleep and too sleepy to get up and do something productive. What do you do to help yourself fall asleep? Surf buzzfeed or imgur? Read the BBC until you're so depressed that you go to sleep to get away from it? No. You go online and find recipes for stuff that looks way too delicious for 3am (it's been an hour, congratulations), then sleep for six more hours while your brain OBSESSES over the recipes you've just found so that when you wake up, these recipes are the ONLY thing you can think about. You'll think about it all day, eventually making a special stop to the grocery so you can make them. This is one of those recipes. It's absolutely delicious, and made even better by the fact that my dear partner w...
