Flightsuit Orange & Banana Glaze

Image
I was looking for a recipe for an orange-cinnamon glaze for fish and ended up with a recipe for topping for waffles that beats all other toppings forever (and we'd tried a lot of different toppings: maple syrup, honey butter, yogurt, you get the idea).  For the order of operations, I think I'd make the batter for the waffles and start the waffle iron heating, then start the glaze, and make the waffles while the sauce reduces, but this was definitely a science experiment that worked out so well that I'm now trying to reverse-engineer it into something replicable. Also, Mark Hamill looks adorable in bright orange, don't let anybody ever tell you any different. <3 Flightsuit Orange & Banana Glaze Ingredients 2 Tbsp butter, melted 2 Tbsp sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup orange juice 2 bananas, sliced 1/2-3/4" thick Instructions In a 9" skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sugar and cinnamon and whisk to combine. Add the orange ...

Sand(wich) People Hummus

Sand People are easily startled, but they'll be back soon enough if you make them some nice hummus, and they might not even beat you with sticks if you use this hummus to make them a sandwich. Also, good stars Ben, you can't just call them Sand People. Way to be a super old racist dude. This recipe was inspired by  Alton Brown's "Hummus for Real" recipe  on the Food Network, but recipes on the Food Network always have too many adjectives in them, so here's my version, which is tons easier and shorter and just better all around. It's also my go-to when I don't have the energy to cook something more substantial, and it makes a damn good centerpiece to a handful of good meals. More on that below. For now, go give this recipe a try. It's really very tasty. Sand(wich) People Hummus Ingredients 15 - 16 oz tinned chickpeas, drained but keep the liquid 2 cloves' garlic 2 tbsp lemon juice 1/4 cup chickpea liquid 1/3 cup tahini (peanut butt...

Quezza Pizzadilla

I have a wicked weakness for pizza, which is stupid because pizza is Not Good for Me and expensive. Its only redeeming quality these days is that it's a 7,000-step walk from my house to the pizza shop and back, and that's kind of negated by the fact that I get home and eat the entire pizza in one go , then fall asleep in a food coma. My relationship with pizza is complex and troubled, let me tell you. Today, we got home from our walk (same 7k-step walk, mind you, only we bought doughnuts instead of pizza, my body weeps) and I got all feisty watching my partner wash the pan he uses to make me quesadillas. What if, I thought, I (and by "I" I mean "he") made a quesadilla with mozzarella cheese and some Italian spices, then dipped it in pizza sauce? Would I get something vaguely pizza-ish? The answer is a resounding YES. It's not got the consistency of pizza, but it has the flavor, which is what I find I crave. And it's small, which means I can gor...
